Special Programs

  • 21st Century Community Learning Center: 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) is an out of school time program offered free of charge through a federal grant administered by the New Mexico Public Education Department.  The program offers academic, leadership, and enrichment opportunities for students and families.  Click here for more information. 

  • Fine Arts Programs: Española Public Schools receives Fine Arts Education Act programming to all K-6 school sites, this program offers opportunities for elementary students to participate in fine arts activities, including visual arts, music, theater and dance. Our school utilizes its fine arts funding to provide NDI, music and other contract art programs here). 

  • Bilingual & EL Services: Española Public Schools implements a Heritage Language (Spanish or Tewa) instructional programs at all school sites and at most grade levels (K-12) as staff is available. At Chimayo we offer Spanish programs for students from kindergarten through fourth grade as we are not fully staffed with endorsed teachers. Española Public Schools also offers English Language Development (ELD) to English Learners (ELs) as needed at all school sites. EL services are enhanced and supported through Title III program funding.  Click here for more information. 

  • Title I Program: Title I provides financial assistance to districts and schools with high numbers or high percentages of children from low-income families to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards. Our school utilizes its Title I funding to provide tutoring for students who need extra support in Language Arts.. Click here for more information.   

  • Inquiry Based Science Education: The Inquiry Science Education Consortium (ISEC) nurtures partnerships and cultivates excellence in public education in Northern New Mexico. ISEC is the LANL Foundation's flagship K-12 Program, dedicated to increasing equity and access to quality STEM education for students in grades K–6 throughout Northern New Mexico. The program initiated early alignment with the Next Generation Science Standards and supported the State in advocating for its NM STEM Ready! Science Standards.   • Student Council:  Our school offers a student council program in grades five and six.   Student council members work together with an adult advisor within the framework of a constitution or bylaws to provide a means for student expression and assistance in school affairs and activities, gives opportunities for student experience in leadership and encourage student, faculty, and community relations. Through projects and activities, student councils work to promote citizenship, scholarship, leadership, human relations, and cultural values.

  • Elementary Sports Program:  Espanola Public Schools supports a district basketball and cheer program for students in grades 4-6.  Eligible student athletes may participate in district organized games each fall.  This year will be the first time in ages that this will not take place due to Covid-19.
